GRANTS 2011

This year, the Fund awarded over $330,000 to 47 organizations to fund the following programs, services, and staff positions:

Abilities United:  Early Intervention Program, addressing the special needs of infants with developmental and physical disabilities, birth to age 3, and their families. www.abilitiesunited.org

Achievekids: Vocational Education program, offering pre-employment training and employment opportunities to special needs youth of Palo Alto and Santa Clara County. www.achievekids.org

Acterra:  Green@Home Do-it-Yourself energy-saving workshops to the East Palo Alto community.  www.acterra.org

Adolescent Counseling Services: On-Campus Counseling program, providing depression screenings, mental health awareness, and other prevention efforts to families and teens attending Palo Alto schools.  www.acs-teens.org

American Red Cross, Silicon Valley Chapter:  Safe Ride program run by and for teens to provide safe, anonymous and free rides home on weekend nights during the school year.  www.siliconvalley-redcross.org

Art In Action:  Art in Action Program teaching art appreciation, art history, and art techniques to students at Willow Oaks Elementary School in Menlo Park.  www.artinaction.org

Belle Haven Community School:  Family Engagement and Youth Development programs, to improve student academic achievement, family well being and contributing to broader community change.  www.ravenswood.k12.ca.us/schools/belle-haven-elementary

Blossom Birth Services:  Community based awareness campaign for pregnant women to improve the quality of their maternal care.   www.blossombirth.org

Bread of Life East Palo Alto: Community Feeding program, providing hot meals to low-income individuals and families.  www.breadoflifeepa.org

Breast Cancer Connections:  Gabriella Patser program, providing access to breast cancer screening and diagnostic services to medically underserved young women at no charge to the client.  www.bcconnections.org

Bring Me A Book:  Peninsula Preschool Library Initiative supporting the delivery of First Teachers workshops and Bookcase Library replenishments in Palo Alto, Menlo Park and East Palo Alto.  www.bringmeabook.org

BUILD:  Peninsula Youth Business and Academic Incubator, supporting 10th-12th grade students with entrepreneurial training and targeted academic intervention.  www.build.org

Building Futures Now:  Summer program for 4th-7th grade high potential, under-served students strengthening their academic knowledge and developing important study and interpersonal skills.  www.buildingfuturesnow.org

CASSY (Counseling & Support Services for Youth):  Summer school mental health program for students from the Ravenswood City School District.  www.cassybayarea.org

Cleo Eulau Center:Collaborative Counseling program, providing critical interventions to youth on probation or at-risk of offending in East Palo Alto.  www.cleoeulaucenter.org

College Track:  After school program working to increase high school graduation, college eligibility and enrollment, and college graduation rates among low-income, under-resourced high school students.  www.collegetrack.org

CORA (Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse):  Crisis Intervention Services providing a 24-hour hotline and Emergency shelter to victims of domestic violence and their children.  www.corasupport.org

East Palo Alto Children’s Day Committee:  Children’s Day in the Park, a free event designed to build community togetherness and dedicated to children learning about different cultures.  www.epachildrensday.com

East Palo Alto Greyhounds:  Track & Field program sending youth athletes to AAU/USA Junior Olympics.  www.epagreyhounds.com

East Palo Alto Kids Foundation: Education Micro Grant program providing grants to educators in the Ravenswood School District to promote educational achievement for students in the classroom. www.epak.org

East Palo Alto Phoenix Academy (EPAPA):  Alumni Support program, providing support for the Alumni Support Director position to empower EPAPA students, alumni & families to foster a college-going culture and ensuring graduation from college.  www.epapa.org

East Palo Alto Youth Court:  Counseling Services provided to youth offenders and their families to realize their emotional and social potential through counseling and preventive education. www.epayouthcourt.org

Environmental Volunteers: Summer camp scholarships for low-income youth. www.EVols.org

Foothill College Extended Opportunity Program and Services:  Book Service program, providing college textbooks to underserved students at Foothill College. www.foothill.edu/services/eops

Get Involved! Palo Alto High School: Publication of on and off campus community service opportunities to promote community service to young people within the city of Palo Alto.  No website.

Hidden Villa:  Scholarships providing summer camp experiences for youth whose economic status would otherwise preclude their participation in camps.  www.hiddenvilla.org

Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County: Peninsula Family Advocacy Program, providing legal assistance, education, and referrals to low-income women and children who receive medical care at local hospitals and health centers. www.legalaidsmc.org

Lytton Gardens:  “End of Life” program, supporting patients facing terminal illnesses and their families by training staff and modifying patient rooms to accommodate loved ones and creating a quiet ambiance.  www.lyttongardens.org

MayView Community Health Center:  Immunization services to children under 18 to help protect them from many common infections. www.mayview.org

Music In the Schools:  In-Classroom and afterschool choral and instrumental programs providing music instruction to 3rd-5th grade students at Willow Oaks School. www.musicintheschools.org

New Creation Home Ministries:  Holistic Residential Care facility support that provides housing to low-income minority teen mothers and their children.   www.newcreationhome.org

Nuestra Casa:  Parents as Leaders program building strong and effective parent leadership groups in the Ravenswood City School District. www.nuestracasa.org

One East Palo Alto:  Sponsored Employment program, providing summer jobs, mentoring and community connectedness opportunities for youth and young adults at high risk in East Palo Alto.www.1epa.org

Palo Alto Community Child Care:  Support summer Subsidy Program for children with parents who work fulltime or attend school. www.paccc.com

Palo Alto Family YMCA: Summer camp scholarship program, assisting children from economically disadvantaged families in Palo Alto. www.ymcasv.org

Parca:Page Mill Court apartment complex program, providing on-site supervision, independent living skills training, and social and recreational activities to residents.  www.parca.org

Ravenswood Family Health Center:  Ravenswood Family Dentistry, providing high quality dental treatment and oral health promotion. www.ravenswoodfhc.org

Renaissance StartUp: Entrepreneurship training program, providing business training, technical assistance and business networking to low-income business owners. www.rencenter.org

RoadRunners Sports Club: After school sports program and activities, enhancing the mental and physical well being of East Palo Alto youth. www.roadrunnersportsclub.com

Saint Francis of Assisi Youth Club:  BE THE FIRST! Saturday program to help youth develop a passion and desire for academic development throughout their high school years by providing healthy recreation and academic support.  www.stfrancisyouthclub.org

St. Anthony’s Padua Dining Room: Providing hot, healthy meals to anyone seeking a meal and a safe place to eat. www.paduadiningroom.com

St. Vincent de Paul Society: Provide emergency financial assistance for paying rent and to keep families in their houses and their utilities not turned off. No website

StarVista (formerly, Youth and Family Enrichment Services):  Mental Health Counseling and early intervention services for the Ravenswood City School District.  www.star-vista.org

Stevenson House: Part-time social work case manager, supporting senior residents in coping with issues affecting their mental and physical health. www.stevensonhouse.org

TheatreWorks:  TheatreWorks for Schools program offering arts activities to economically and culturally diverse students.   www.theatreworks.org

Vida Verde Nature Education: Outdoor educational opportunities for elementary aged underserved students. www.Vveducation.org
