GRANTS 2006

 

In 2006, the Fund awarded over $149,000 to 24 organizations for the projects described below.

AchieveKids: Place and support disabled students in paid or volunteer positions.

Adolescent Counseling Services: Provide therapists to all Palo Alto secondary schools and Menlo Atherton High School during summer months to continue crisis intervention all year.

American Red Cross, Palo Alto Chapter:  Continue Safe Ride, a teen operated program offering free, safe, confidential rides to teenagers who have been drinking.

Art in Action: Support and extend art programs in thirteen East Palo Alto and Belle Haven elementary school classrooms.

Avenidas: Initiate telephone outreach service to all Palo Alto residents aged 85 and older.

Challenge Learning Center: Build leadership and public speaking skills in a diverse group of mid-peninsula high school students.

Community Association for Rehabilitation (CAR): Fund scholarships to integrate low-income disabled children into normal pre-school program.

East Palo Alto YMCA: Fund Preteen and Teen Adventure Day camp in summer of 2006.

Eden Council for Hope & Opportunity (ECHO Housing): Provide budgetary counseling and resources for low income citizens to obtain or maintain rental housing in the Palo Alto area.

Edgewood Center for Children and Families, East Palo Alto & Belle Haven program: Provide life skills workshops, academic tutoring and recreation for youth who are being raised by grandparents or other relatives.

Environmental Volunteers: In collaboration with other agencies, provide comprehensive science programs at East Palo Alto Charter School in grades 2–5.

Family Connections: Fund Father/Male Caregiver program providing positive role models and support to male caregivers in East Palo Alto, Belle Haven and Fair Oaks.

Friends of Palo Alto Parks: Fund the design, fabrication, and installation of five educational display panels at the new Arastradero Gateway Nature Center.

Girls For A Change: Provide training to 1,000 diverse lower income girls in the Palo Alto area including events, supplies and action handbooks.

International Institute of San Francisco, East Palo Alto & Belle Haven program: Help 150 newcomer immigrant families with paperwork, advice, and integration into community.

Kara: Provide grief support to bereaved children and families, and in K-12 school communities provide bilingual crisis intervention and grief education.

Music in the Schools Foundation: Provide classroom teachers to four Ravenswood district schools to teach music to 1,000 students a week.

Palo Alto Community Child Care: Fund subsidy of summer day care program for children of low income working parents.

Palo Alto Downtown Streets Team: Keep Palo Alto downtown streets clean while helping homeless persons enter the work force.

Palo Alto Family YMCA/ Ventura site: Fund a variety of outreach programs for children and teens in Palo Alto’s most at risk community.

Palo Alto Housing Corporation: Initiate collaborative after school program for youth within Palo Alto Housing Corporation housing developments.

Pursuit of Excellence: Provide computers as necessary to Pursuit of Excellence college scholarship students.

Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic: Produce and distribute new textbooks to students with print disabilities in Palo Alto, East Palo Alto and Menlo Park.

Youth Community Service: Provide cultural transition training for eighth graders leaving East Palo Alto schools to attend Carlmont High.
